With at least one game every day this week, the South Winn softball team (13-11, 9-1 UIC) started it off with two conference wins at home Monday, with a non-conference battle that went to Riceville Tuesday night.
Conference battle
Monday, the Warriors hosted Clayton Ridge (7-15, 4-8 UIC). In game one, South Winn won, 11-1, having scored at least one run in five of the six innings played.
South Winn had 16 hits. Abby Wagner was 3-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI. Morgan Kriener also had three hits with a double and drove in two runs. Britney Hageman, Morgan Kleve, Isabella Opperman and Avery Luzum all had two hits each.
One run in the second, three in the third and one in the fourth gave the Warriors their second win of the night, 5-3. South Winn scattered 10 hits among seven batters. Kleve and Opperman both were 2-for-2 with a double.
Kleve tossed all 13 innings on the night, giving up a total of seven hits with 16 strikeouts.
“I am very happy with our defense and pitching. We hit good in game one and had just enough to win game two,” said Coach Ken Buchheit.

Only one
In their third game in two days, the Warriors dropped a nonconference game to Riceville (18-7) at home Tuesday, 8-5.
The visitors scored runs in four of the seven frames while South Winn manufactured all five of its runs in the third inning.
Kleve went the distance on the mound, giving up 11 hits and striking out three.
South Winn tallied seven hits with Luzum having a pair of singles. The Warriors’ swing stayed hot as Heying collected a triple and Kriener a double. With a hit apiece were Wagner, Hageman and Kleve.

The Warriors are at Oelwein Thursday, June 22, at 5 p.m. Friday, June 23, the SW squads are at Sumner-Fredericksburg at 3:30 p.m., and finish the week at the Dunkerton tourney Saturday, June 24, at 9 a.m. The Warriors South Winn hosts Turkey Valley Monday, June 26, as at 5 p.m.
