Viking quartet garners NEIC honors

Claiming the final Northeast Iowa Conference crown, the Decorah girls basketball team has more to celebrate as four of its own received nods from the league on the league teams recently.
Claire Storhoff and Brooklyn Fromm earned first team honors while Renae Wilson and Sydney Thompson were recognized for their efforts on the second team.
For Storhoff it’s the second time she’s been named to the first team despite a season-ending injury midseason. Through the 14 games the sophomore competed in, Storhoff was third in steals with 49, averaging 3.5 steals a night. In addition she was fifth in points in the NEIC and topped the Viking chart with 209, averaging 14.9 points a game. She also had 37 assists and 66 rebounds (51 defensive, 15 offensive).
Second in scoring for Decorah was Fromm with 201 total points scored, an average of 8.7 per game, finishing with a 41.1 field goal percentage in the NEIC which was fifth best. Fromm reigned in a total of 98 rebounds (79 defensive, 19 offensive) and took over as a point guard when Storhoff was injured. The junior provided 42 assists, 33 steals and 10 blocked shots.
It’s first time accolades for the junior duo of Wilson and Thompson.
Wilson stepped into a starting position late in the season after providing profitable minutes off the bench earlier. She compiled 14 blocked shots, the fourth most in the NEIC and was sixth in the league (second for the Vikings) in total boards with 124 which including 70 defensive and 54 offensive rebounds. Wilson put up 6.1 points per game (140 total) to go with 21 assists and 16 steals.
Hitting 25.2 percent from behind the arc, Thompson led the league in three pointers made with 36, scoring a total of 187 points (8.9 points per game) during the season. She also pulled in 78 rebounds (63 defensive, 15 offensive), dished out 32 assists and had 23 steals.
