With the holiday break soon upon them, the Decorah girls’ basketball team (4-2, 2-0 NEIC) was on the court twice over the weekend, claiming victory over New Hampton, 58-37, and falling in its second Border Battle game of the season to Caledonia, 37-31.

The first quarter was the difference maker for Decorah Friday as it hosted New Hampton (2-4, 0-2 NEIC), defeating the Chickasaws, 58-37.
“We played a solid first quarter and had to make adjustments due to foul trouble. The players off the bench gave us great minutes. We continue to work towards putting four quarters together,” said Coach Shannon Quandahl.
The Vikings rang up 25 points in the first period, more than doubling the visitors to lead 25-12. Scoring slowed in the second for Decorah, while the Viking defense held NH to just one point to take a 33-13 lead into the locker room. Both NEIC squads put up 24 points in the second half, leaving the Chickasaws on the losing end of the contest.
With 21 points, Yazmeen Whitsitt highlighted the scoring while Bryar Duwe added 16. On the board with six points was Kylie O’Hara and Maddy Fromm. Brynn Storhoff put in five and Sami Mount had four.
