Viking girls fall at Wahlert

By Becky Walz,

After opening the season with a win last week, the Decorah girls’ basketball team fell on the road to Class 3A No. 3 Wahlert Catholic Tuesday night, 67-34.
The Vikes struggled offensively throughout the night, producing 10 points in the first eight minutes and seven in the second frame. At halftime, Decorah trailed 37-17. Wahlert’s lead was extended in the third quarter when the Golden Eagles outscored the Vikes 17-6.
“I’m proud of our girls continued effort, even though the score wasn’t in our favor. Dubuque Wahlert is an excellent team who brings back 4 of its 5 starters from last year’s state tournament run,” said coach Blake Moen. “We’ll watch the film, get better, and use this to keep growing as a group. I’m already looking forward to getting back in the gym with the team.”
Decorah was led by Claire Storhoff with 18 points, two steals and two assists. Brooklyn Fromm added eight points and three rebounds. Sydney Thompson put up five points to go with four boards and three assists. Liz Bucksa had three points while Renae Wilson nabbed five rebounds.
