TV golfers split

By Becky Walz,

It was a busy start to the week for the Turkey Valley golf teams. Monday, both the girls’ and boys’ teams visited Tri-City Golf and Country Club near Luana. The girls’ then hosted Crestwood Tuesday night at Jackson Junction.

Split meet
With the weather the best it had been all season with 70-degree temps, sunny skies and a gentle breeze, the Trojans split the UIC dual with MFL MarMac Tuesday. The girls’ team shot their lowest round of the year at 220 to defeat the Bulldogs, who ended with a round of 257. In the boys’ competition, it was MFL MarMac defeating TV 192 to 204.
Turkey Valley’s Ali Hoffert was the meet medalist with a round of 48, five strokes better than the runner-up, Rose Grau of MFL MarMac.
Fellow seniors Reagan Kime (56) and Emma Hanson (58), along with junior veteran Tess Franzen (58) also saw their scores count toward the 220-team total. Freshmen Mariah Throndson (72), Ana Ventura (82) and Megan Blong (85) also toured the terrain.
Junior stalwart Garrett Kurtenbach turned in a sparkling four-over-par 38 to lead the Trojans en route to medalist honors.
Juniors Jackson Vsetecka (51) and Brody Hackman (57), along with promising freshman Caleb Kurtenbach (58) also counted for the Trojans. Juniors Lance Schmitt (64), Brady Barta (76) and Rolin Schmitt (75), along with freshman Braylen Byrne (71) also made the trip to Luana.

Girls’ only
In a non-conference, girls’ only meet Tuesday night, it was the Trojans picking up the win 229 to 237. TV also swept the medalist honors as junior Tess Franzen shot a career- low 53 to notch the top spot. Three shots back with a 56, senior Ali Hoffert took the runner-up medal.
Senior Emma Hanson (59) has really settled in with sub-60 rounds the last three outings. Classmate Reagan Kime (61) can also be counted on to bolster the TV line-up. Promising freshmen Mariah Throndson (67) and Bella Gruenberg (79) also found themselves on the TV scorecard. Megan Blong (72) continues to challenge for a varsity spot and Ana Ventura (85) keeps improving every time out.
