It was a marathon start to the season for the Turkey Valley baseball team (1-1, 1-1 UIC) as the Trojans split a conference doubleheader with Kee High (3-4, 1-1 UIC) Tuesday in Jackson Junction.
Base runners were few and far between in game one which went scoreless into the 10th inning. It was there that the Hawks took advantage of a single and three walks to put three runs on the board in the top of the inning and left TV pining for runs. In the bottom half of the frame the Trojans couldn’t come up with the timely hits and ultimately fell, 3-0.
In game two, the Trojan bats went to work to recoup the 10-inning loss and Turkey Valley earned the split with a 9-1 win. The home team put up their first tally with back-to-back doubles by Oliver Schmitt and Garrett Dietzenbach. TV added two runs in each the third, fourth, fifth and sixth innings, giving the Hawks one in the fourth.
The Trojans welcome North Fayette Valley to Jackson Junction Thursday, May 25, for more conference action at 4 p.m. Saturday, May 27, Turkey Valley will play New Hampton at 9 a.m., then return home Tuesday, May 30 to face Clayton Ridge at 4 p.m.
