Trojan defense dominates

By Becky Walz,

The Turkey Valley girls’ basketball team (10-4, 10-1 UIC) ran past Tripoli (1-11) Thursday night, defeating the visitors 60-13.
It took no time for the Trojans to take the lead in the non-conference contest, with a 14-7 advantage following the first quarter. TV extended its lead to 32-9 by halftime and outscored the Panthers 28-4 in the second half.
“We did an outstanding job defending as we limited Tripoli’s second-chance opportunities. I also liked the way we forced tempo creating easy baskets for us,” said Coach Steve Hoffert.
Jacqlyn Schmitt led all scorers with 21 points and had two blocks. Putting up seven points were Alison Leibold and Addison Steinlage. Under the basket, Steinlage hauled in four rebounds to go with four steals while Leibold handed out five assists.
This week Turkey Valley is at Clayton Ridge Tuesday, Jan. 17, and MFL MarMac Friday, Jan. 20, with the conference games set to begin at 6:15 p.m.
