Three Lady Vikes named All-NEIC

Three members of the Decorah softball team were honored by the Northeast Iowa Conference recently by being named all-conference.
Elizabeth Bucksa, Lauren Luzum and Clara Hjelle all earned first team honors.
A freshman, Bucksa, anchored the second base position this season for the Vikes and led the team in total hits with 35 with the second-best hitting average at .420, to go with a .431 on-base percentage and .530 slugging mark. Of her hits, three were doubles and one triple with four RBI and seven stolen bases. Her total of 31 singles was third-best in the NEIC.
A second team selection a year ago, Luzum, Decorah’s catcher, moves up to first with a team high batting average of .420 with the third-best on-base percentage in the NEIC at .510 with a .667 slugging mark. The sophomore had all three of the Viking home runs for the season, along with two triples and seven doubles as was second in total hits with 34.
Hjelle, a sophomore, has been on the All-NEIC list throughout her career as a second team member her eighth-grade season and first team honors as a freshman and this season. Hjelle threw 22 games for the Vikes, earning a 7-11 record with a 2.89 earned run average. She recorded 95 strikeouts, giving up 150 hits and 51 earned runs. Hjelle was also productive at the plate with a .293 average, connecting for 22 hits including three doubles and a triple to drive in 13 runs.
