Having won the first two meetings of the season over North Fayette Valley (3-16, 3-7 UIC), the Turkey Valley baseball team (9-10, 7-5 UIC) was looking for the three-game sweep Thursday, June 15, at home — and got it, 5-1.
The game started with NFV getting out to an early 1-0 lead at the top of the first inning. At the bottom of the third inning, Turkey Valley tied the game with a sacrifice fly by senior right fielder Chase Hayek. The game remained tied until the bottom of the fifth inning, when the Trojans scored four runs. Neither team would score for the rest of the game, leaving TV with the 5-1 victory.
After freshman pitcher Logan Busta gave up just one run over the course of the first five innings, junior pitcher Oliver Schmitt came in to finish the game.
In the batter’s box, the Trojans garnered seven hits. Carson Busta and Aidan Holthaus each contributed a double, while Garrett Dietzenbach went 2-for-3 at the plate. Calvin Bodensteiner, Schmitt and Caleb Kurtenbach also had a hit for TV.
The Trojans were in action against MFL MarMac Monday and will head to Garnavillo to face Clayton Ridge-Central Tuesday, June 20, at 4 p.m., followed by a junior varsity contest.
