By Becky Walz,
Wrapping up the regular season, the South Winn boys’ basketball team (14-6, 13-3 UIC) ventured to Waukon (9-3, 14-5 NEIC), dropping the non-conference contest, 84-54.
The Warriors found ways to put the ball in through the net early on, allowing the Indians a slim 18-14 lead after the first period. Waukon expanded the lead to 37-26 at the half, but the bulk of the damage took place in the third period.
Five minutes into the third quarter, South Winn had the Indian lead down to six before Waukon rattled off a 25-2 run to finish the period with a 67-39 advantage which the Warriors could not overcome.
With 13 points, Jacob Herold led the Warriors offensively. The senior collected four rebounds and four steals as well. Collin Wiltgen finished the night with 11 points and six rebounds, while Nick Holien provided nine points. Trey Kriener added eight points and crashed the boards for seven rebounds.
