Teams were back in action after snowstorms hindered competitions last week with the South Winn girls’ basketball team (4-10, 3-6 UIC) traveling to Crestwood (4-8) Monday and falling, 50-31.
“Our effort was there,” said Coach Justin Izer. “These girls play hard and continue to fight even when adversity strikes. We haven’t been clicking on offense lately but because of our effort and our defensive energy we still have been able to compete in games.”
The Warriors fell behind 12-4 in the first with the Cadets extending their lead to 27-10 by the half break. While offensive production was better in the second half with 21 points for the Warriors it was no match for the lead Crestwood had built.
Alyssa Holthaus put up a team-high 10 points to go with three rebounds and two steals. Adding eight points was Karissa Wenthold, along with three rebounds, three assists and two steals. Aubrey Willey led the way off the rim with five rebounds.
South Winn is home against West Central Friday, Jan. 19, at 6:15 p.m., then hosts New Hampton in a non-conference match-up Monday, Jan. 22.
