A slow start on the road was too much for the South Winn girls’ basketball team (2-10, 2-8 UIC) to overcome Tuesday night as the Lady Warriors fell to MFL MarMac (8-4, 7-2 UIC) in Monona, 46-25.
South Winn put up just seven points in the first quarter to trail 17-7. Although the Bulldogs’ scoring was slower, so was the Warriors, making it 29-11 at the half. In the third period, SW cut into the lead slightly as it held MFL MarMac to just two points, making it 31-17.
“We played hard for all 32 minutes and I thought we took a step forward. In the first half we struggled taking care of the ball, but once we settled down we got good looks. Defense was our best friend again. The third quarter was phenomenal on that end outscoring them 6-2. We need to keep looking to improve and we have a short turnaround traveling to Sumner Fred Thursday night,” said Coach Justin Izer.
Josie Tieskoetter led the Warriors with seven points to go with nine rebounds. Morgan Kleve had six points and 10 boards. Katrina Hageman and Janessa Zweibahmer chipped in four points.
South Winn will be on the road to Sumner-Fred Thursday, Jan. 21, in a non-conference game at 6:15 p.m. Next week, the Lady Warriors will play at North Fayette Valley Tuesday, Jan. 26, at 6:15 p.m.
