Six honored on UIC list

Six local athletes from the Upper Iowa Conference were named to the all-UIC list, released recently.
Four Trojans and two Warriors were recognized for their efforts.

First team
Senior Ali Hoffert was named first team. She is a four-time honoree, receiving first team nods three seasons, as well as a second team honor as a freshman. This season, Hoffert led the Trojans with 18.7 points per game through 25 contests. She hit 45.3 percent from the field and 39.1 percent from the three-point line. She pulled down 8.1 rebounds a contest (202 total, 93 offensive, 109 defensive). The senior also topped the block chart with 23, while holding down the third spot in steals with 73 to go with 65 assists.

Second team
Jaycie Byrne finished her senior campaign with her third all-conference nod on the second team. As a junior, she had received first-team honors, as was a second team selection as a sophomore. Byrne led the Trojans in steals with 122 take-aways and was second on the team in scoring, averaging 10.8 points a game with a 45.9% field goal percentage. She also bested TV with 74 assists and had 65 total boards (25 offensive, 40 defensive).

Honorable mention
Two athletes from each UIC squad were named to the honorable mention list.
Representing Turkey Valley were juniors Kara Reicks and Jalyssa Blazek, both the second time they have been honored.
Reicks posted 6.9 points a game while coming away with 3.5 steals a night (88 for the year). She also had 57 total rebounds and 45 assists.
Blazek contributed 4.6 points and 2.7 rebounds (68 total) per night, to go with 45 steals, 35 assists and 10 blocks.
For the Warriors, senior Mary Frana and freshman Josie Tieskoetter were also named. Both are first-time honorees.
Frana led South Winn in steals and assists with 49 and 28, respectively. The senior grabbed a total of 105 rebounds during her senior season, with 62 defensive and 43 offensive.
Tieskoetter led the offensive charge for the Warriors with 6.0 points per game to go with a team-high 6.8 rebounds a night average. For the season she tallied 136 boards (57 offensive, 79 defensive) to go with 33 steals and 11 assists.
