Second half rally spurs Vikes to win

After a close first half that ended in a tie, the Decorah boys’ basketball team (12-7, 6-4 NEIC) put together a strong second half, defeating West Delaware (12-10) on the road, 57-44, Tuesday night.
The Vikings start the playoffs Monday, Feb. 20, at home at 7 p.m., and will once again square off with West Delaware as they begin their quest for state in Class 3A Substate 4. The winner moves on to face the winner of Marion (16-4) and Vinton-Shellsburg (3-17) in the substate semifinal Thursday, Feb. 23, at 7 p.m., at a location to be determined.

   In Tuesday’s contest, the Vikes pulled to a slight advantage 15-14 in the first period. However, the Hawks made it a tie score 35-all at the half. Decorah came out of the locker room inspired, outscoring the home team 11-6 in the third quarter and held the Hawks to just three points in the fourth.
   Individual stats were unavailable at press time.
   Decorah has one more regular season game as it hosts Mason City Thursday, Feb. 16, at 7 p.m.
