In the final week of regular-season competition, the Decorah boys golf team faced some rigid teams — and even harsher winds — in a tournament Monday and against Charles City Tuesday.
Monday tourney
The wind was not a friend of the Decorah boys golf team as the Vikes placed ninth in the 11-team tournament hosted by the Lake City High School (Minn.) golf meet at the Jewel Golf Club Monday.
Rochester Century won the meet with a team total of 322. Decorah tallied a 355 and defeated Byron and Cannon Falls.
Ben Bockman had Decorah’s low score with an 87 (44-43). Other Vikings on the course included Jackson Pipho (45-43=88), Jack Knoke (46-44=90), Lane Rolfs (44-46=90), Kollin Henry (50-44=94) and Andrew Olson (49-56=105).
NEIC action Tuesday
Traveling to Cedar Ridge Golf Course in Charles City Tuesday, the Vikes won the NEIC 18-hole dual with the Comets by 11 strokes, 358 to 369.
Charles City’s Carson Gallup finished the day 6-over-par at 78 (38-40) to earn medalist honors over runner-up Lane Rolfs of Decorah. The Viking senior carded an 88 (48-40). Jackson Pipho also finished with an 88 (45-43) while Ben Bockman and Jackson Knoke fashioned 91s to round out the scoring. Bockman had rounds of 45 and 46, while Knoke went 48 and 43. Coming through with a 99 was Andrew Rhodes (50-49). The final linkster on the course for Decorah was Kollin Henry (50-58=108).
Completing 9-holes in junior varsity action were Cade Averhoff (44), Hunter Quandahl (45), Andrew Olson (48), Bradan Darling (48), Lincoln Robinson (51), Jonathan Egan (54) and Shane Treangen (59).
Wrapping it up
Decorah has one more meet before the postseason begins and will host Waverly-Shell Rock Thursday, May 4, at the Oneota Golf & Country Club at 2 p.m. Monday, May 8, the Vikes will travel to the Cresco Country Club to compete in the Northeast Iowa Conference tournament beginning at 9 a.m.
