Schley wins first football contest

The first week of the Pigskin Picks football contest is in the books and it was a doozy. The Wartburg versus Monmouth College game was thrown out of the mix due to the sports editor error. That particular game had been played the prior week and it should have been the Knights playing Saint John’s.
With that game exempt, it was Twila Schley of Fort Atkinson winning the top prize with just two misses in game predictions.
Four other entries missed three games with the first tiebreaker coming into play. Turkey Valley scored the single most points of any team with 60. Decorah’s Sue Roby guessed 63 to earn second place, while Mark Cline of Decorah selected 54 on the tiebreaker, taking third.
Among the most commonly missed games was Western Dubuque over Xavier, along with a pair of NFL games — Minnesota stunning San Francisco and Green Bay besting Indianapolis.
