In the finals
Two Vikings worked their way into the finals Saturday to finish runner-up in their respective weight classes.
At 132 pounds, junior Lane Rolfs began with a fall in 5:11 over Kaedyn Anderson of Waukon. In the semifinal match, Rolfs squared off with Crestwood’s Ethan Govern and trailed 5-3 entering the final period. In the third, Rolfs earned a penalty point and an escape to tie the score 5-5. A takedown with three seconds remaining handed the Viking grappler the 7-5 decision to advance to the finals. In the championship bout, Rolfs faced Class 3A No. 5 Carter Fecht of Waverly-Shell Rock, falling 5-1 to take second place.
A first-round bye put 145-pound Brady Stille in the semifinal versus Ethan Bibler of Waverly-Shell Rock. The two went the three-period distance with Class 2A ninth-ranked Stille walking off the mat with a 12-0 major decision. The junior then looked at another Waverly-Shell Rock grappler in the finals as he battled Class 3A No. 4 Bas Diaz to a 7-1 decision to finish as the runner-up at 145 pounds.
