Postseasons getting underway for basketball, wrestling, bowling

With district boys swimming already completed and girls state wrestling wrapping up this past weekend, other area athletic teams are gearing up for the postseason action.

Girls basketball
Brackets for all the classes of girls basketball have now been released.
Decorah is in Class 4A Region 8 and will host Waterloo East in the first quarterfinals Wednesday, Feb. 19, at 7 p.m. A win would move the Vikes into the semifinal against Xavier Saturday, Feb. 22, in Cedar Rapids. The regional final is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 25, at 7 p.m., on the highest remaining seed’s home court.
South Winn is in Class 2A Region 8 and have a first-round game at home against Postville at 7 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 15. A win will move South Winn into the quarterfinal against Denver on the Cyclones’ home court at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 18, The regional semifinal will be at 7 p.m., Friday, Feb. 21, at Denver with the regional final set for at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 26, at site to be determined Turkey Valley in Class 1A Region 5 and opens the postseason at home against West Central tonight (Thursday, Feb. 13) for opening round action at 7 p.m. The winner moves on to play Kee in Lansing at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 18. The regional semifinal will be held at 7 p.m.,Friday, Feb. 21, in Riceville with the regional final at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 26.

SW, TV boys basketball
Postseason boys basketball pairings have been announced for South Winn and Turkey Valley who are both in Class 1A District 6.
South Winn will host Starmont while the Trojans will travel to Lansing to battle Kee in the district quarterfinals at 7 p.m., Monday, Feb. 17. A win for the Warriors would advance them to the semifinals against the winner of Maquoketa Valley and Edgewood-Colesburg. If Turkey Valley survives Kee they would battle Don Bosco, Clayton Ridge or West Central in the district semifinals, which are scheduled for at 7 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 20. The district final to be held at 7 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 25, at the highest remaining seed.
Decorah is in Class 3A and those brackets will be released Monday, Feb. 17, with the opening round of substate games tipping off Monday, Feb. 24.

District wrestling Saturday
District wrestling assignments for all three classes have been announced for Saturday, Feb. 105, with wrestling starting at 10 a.m. The top two place winners in each weight class from each sectional will move on to the state meet. The individual state meet runs Wednesday through Saturday, Feb. 19-22, at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.
Decorah is in Class 2A, District 5 and will compete at Clear Lake. Other teams there include Crestwood, Forest City, Garner-Hayfield-Ventura, Hampton-Dumont-CAL, Iowa Falls-Alden and North Butler.
The Warriors are in Class 1A District 2 at Denver along with Central Elkader, Columbus Catholic, East Buchanan, Hudson, Newman Catholic, North Linn, Starmont and Wapsie Valley.
New Hampton/Turkey Valley is also in Class 2A, but District 9 and will host Aplington-Parkersburg/Grundy Center, Charles City, North Fayette Valley, Oelwein, Vinton-Shellsburg, Waukon and West Delaware in New Hampton.

Bowling
The Decorah bowling teams will host qualifying meets at 10 a.m., Monday, Feb. 17, and Tuesday, Feb. 18, at Kingpin Entertainment Center.
In team action, each squad will bowl 15 baker games with the top pin total advancing to the state meet with eight qualifiers per class (top two teams per site). Individuals will bowl three games each with the top pin total advancing to state with 32 qualifiers per class (top eight per site).
The Viking girls’ will be on the lanes first Monday, Feb. 17, with Waverly-Shell Rock, Waterloo East, Xavier, Marion, Central Dewitt, Clinton and Western Dubuque.
Tuesday, Feb. 13, will be the boys’ turn to compete for a return trip to state against Ballard, Independence, Marion, Waterloo East, Waverly-Shell Rock, Western Dubuque and Xavier.
