The Decorah boys’ tennis team took its second road trip of the season to Waverly to play the Waverly-Shell Rock Go-Hawks and secured a 9-0 varsity win.

The track and field teams of Turkey Valley loaded up to compete at the Nashua-Plainfield co-ed invite Tuesday night with the girls’ returning to Jackson Junction as the team runner-up with 136 points. The hosts claimed the top spot with 150 points. In the boys’ team standings, the Trojans collected 35 points to garner a fifth-place finish as Central Springs ran away with 190 points for the team title.

Scoring points in nearly every event, the Decorah girls’ track and field team ran away with the title at the Hudson Relays with 106 points Tuesday night. A close second went to Bondurant-Farrar with 101.50 points.

The Turkey Valley golf teams got the 2021 season underway versus Tripoli at Jackson Heights Golf Course Tuesday, April 13, in less-than-ideal conditions. On a brutal night where temperatures were in the low 40s and northwest wind gusts up to 20 mph, the Trojans fell short.

Getting into action on its home court, the Decorah girls’ tennis team defeated Charles City, 9-0, Tuesday night.
With the wind gusting and the temperature falling, the girls heated it up on the courts and played some of their best tennis of the year.

The Decorah boys’ soccer team left its home pitch Monday night with a 2-0 win over Independence. Scoring goals for the Vikings were Larsson Shockey and Zach Jermeier. Tuesday, Decorah returned to action at Postville, dropping the match 1-0. Monday, April 19, the Vikings will face North Fayette Valley at the Upper Iowa University field at 5 p.m.

The Decorah girls’ soccer team was back in action Saturday, competing at Dubuque Senior. It took two overtimes, but the Vikes pulled out the 2-1 win.

While temps soared earlier last week, athletes and fans endured cooler, damp weather at the Decorah Invite Thursday night. The Vikes welcomed six other squads, including South Winn, Turkey Valley and Waukon.
In the team race, Decorah took care of business, winning with 160.50 points. The Trojans put up 60, good for fifth, while South Winn took sixth with 45 points.
Waukon boys win Foster-Kiesau

Amid cooler temperatures and rain drops, area boys’ track and field teams competed at the Foster-Kiesau Relays in Postville Thursday night.
The Waukon Indians were crowned the champs with 174 points, winning seven events.
Decorah shines at Waverly Thursday

Area teams raced the overall at Waverly Thursday night with Decorah topping the field at the Dave Sage Go-Hawk Relays with 188 points. In second was the host, Waverly-Shell Rock with 128 points. North Fayette Valley ended up fifth with 61 points.

While the Turkey Valley girls’ golf team is heavy on the amount of experience hitting the links, the Trojan boys remain youthful and untested.
Leading both squads is Head Coach John Reicks. He is in his ninth season leading both programs.

Last week, Decorah High School senior Mason O’Hara signed his letter of intent to play football for Wartburg College in Waverly.
Girls hold their own at Dubuque

Competing against several larger schools, the Decorah girls track team showcased their talent at the Dubuque Senior Tri-State Invite Tuesday night.
Decorah secured 85.50 points to finish fourth. Wahlert Catholic took the crown with 133.50 points, followed by Western Dubuque with 104.5 points.
SW girls grind out one-point victory

The outdoor season is off to a good start for the South Winn girls’ track and field team who competed at the Lady J-Hawk invite in Jesup Tuesday night, winning by a one-point margin.
The meet is divided into two classes. The Warriors were in Class B, taking first of eight teams with 106 points, just ahead of Starmont’s 105. Dike-New Hartford won Class A with 150.50 points.

It almost felt more like summer than spring Monday night as the Decorah boys’ track team hosted five other squads for the early bird meet.
The Vikes posted 182 points to take the team title. South Winn finished the night with 52 points in fifth place.
