The Decorah boys’ tennis team traveled to Oelwein Tuesday and came home with a 9-0 victory.  
“This was the first time this spring that we have had a meet on a hot day. Oelwein has only six members on their team, so the JV stayed home and had a spirited intrasquad duel,” said Coach Reg Laursen.

It was a busy start to the week for the Turkey Valley golf teams. Monday, both the girls’ and boys’ teams visited Tri-City Golf and Country Club near Luana. The girls’ then hosted Crestwood Tuesday night at Jackson Junction.

Lady Trojans runners-up twice

Temps in the 70s, the sun shining and light breeze blowing set the perfect stage for track and field teams to compete at Sumner-Fred Monday night.
The girls finished second at the Blue and Gold Relays with 144 points, with Sumner-Fred winning the team title with 162 points. The TV boys collected 47 points, good for sixth place as Tripoli won the division with 152 points.
Tuesday night, the Trojan girls were back at it, competing in Guttenberg in an invite hosted by Clayton Ridge.

Viking boys runner-up at Mason City; NEIC meet May 6

With eight teams competing at the Mohawk boys’ track invite, the Decorah boys’ track team finished second to the host Mason City. The Vikings garnered 113 points, while the Mohawks led the charge with 145.

After nearly a week off from competitions, the Decorah girls’ track and field team were back on the oval at Waukon Tuesday night, winning the team title with 183 points.

It was a night of solid performances among larger schools for the South Winn boys’ track and field team at Osage Tuesday night, which ended in a fourth-place team finish for the Warriors with 71 points. The team title went to Clear Lake with 148 points.

EDITOR’S NOTE: The April 27 publication of the Driftless Journal inadvertantly published the results from the Decorah versus Oelwein meet held earlier in April, using names and stats from that date. In fact,  the Decorah girls’ tennis team hosted Union Thursday dropping the contest 5-4 and then ventured to Clinton for a tournament Saturday, once again seeing a pair of perennial powerhouses in Waterloo Columbus and Clinton.

Warrior boys runner-up at TigerHawk Invite, girls fifth

On one of the better nights for racing this far into the season, the South Winn girls’ and boys’ track teams competed in West Union at the North Fayette Valley Co-Ed Invite Friday.
In team scores, the SW girls finished fifth overall with 76 points. The hosts were in fourth with 99 points, while Waukon took the team crown with 116 points.
The Warrior boys were the team runners-up with 108 points behind Clear Lake who had 182. The TigerHawks finished the night with 92 points in fourth place.

The Decorah boys’ tennis team got its wish to have a match where the Vikes would be challenged up and down the lineup. Winona Senior provided that challenge and the Decorah netters came through in fine form with a 6-1 victory Friday on the road.

After several meets with less than favorable weather, the Decorah girls’ golf team had the perfect competition conditions at Winona, Minn. Thursday for 18 holes. Friday, the Vikings were back in NEIC action at Cedar Ridge Golf Course in a triangular with Charles City and Waverly-Shell Rock.

It was another night of solid progress for the Turkey Valley track teams Thursday night at the Kee High Invite.
The Lady Trojans finished at the top of the five-team field with 116 points, one point ahead of Kee High. In the boys’ team race, TV came up one-point shy of claiming the title with 86 points as Clayton Ridge reigned above the rest with 87.
