Linksters finish seventh in NEIC

The New Hampton girls’ golf team won its sixth consecutive NEIC golf title Thursday with 365 points. Posting a team score of 398 Waukon was the runner-up. Decorah concluded the day in seventh.
Playing on the New Hampton Golf Course, the Vikings tallied 488, three points behind Oelwein.

With the postseason looming on the horizon, the Decorah girls’ soccer team (6-3) had little issue defeating West Delaware Thursday. Saturday, the Vikings competed in a tournament at Waverly-Shell Rock.

The Decorah boys’ golf team said goodbye to the 2021 season Friday after finishing sixth at the sectional tournament held at Pin Oaks Golf Course in Manchester. Advancing to district competition is Waverly-Shell Rock (326) and Clear Lake (341). The Vikings combined for a score of 378.

Tuesday’s golf triangular was a close one, but the Decorah boys’ team skimmed by Crestwood with a three-stroke advantage. The Vikes finished the night with 182 strokes, just ahead of the Cadets’ 185. Caledonia was also on the course and ended with 208.

Utilizing an expanded line-up, the Decorah boys’ tennis team played a feisty Viroqua team in the second to last match of the season Saturday, winning 8-1. The Vikes were back on the road Monday at Onalaska to wrap up the regular season with a 6-1 loss.

Warriors third, TV fourth in UIC

North Fayette Valley ran away with the title at the Upper Iowa Conference golf meet held Monday at South Winn Golf and Country Club. Coming through with a 372 was Clayton Ridge, while South Winn finished third with 376 strokes. Turkey Valley ended the day fourth with its lowest score of the season at 382.

In the final regular season competition of 2021, the Decorah girls’ golf team took on Caledonia at Ma Cal Grove Country Club. The Warriors bested the Vikings 191 to 242.

Trojans claim UIC title, SW’s Becker medalist

The Turkey Valley Trojans claimed the UIC girls’ golf championship on Tuesday, May 11 at the Tri-City Golf and CC near Luana, surviving a grueling 18-hole test. It was 2008 when TV last won the conference golf title under the coaching of Bob Huinker.

The Turkey Valley boys’ golf team were down to few linksters Friday at Crestwood as players were pulled in numerous directions. The result was the Trojans coming up short 189 to 236 versus the Cadets.

Jim Friest nailed his seventh career hole-in-one Friday, May 7 at Oneota Golf & Country Club on hole No. 11. He used an 8 iron from the green tee to send the ball 105 yards.

Decorah Vikings sweep NEIC titles

It was one for the record books Thursday as the Decorah girls’ and boys’ track and field teams not only hosted, but won, the Northeast Iowa Conference meet.
The top four girls’ teams were separated by just 24 points as the Vikings took their 16th consecutive title with 128 points. New Hampton finished second with 116, while Charles City rounded out the top-three with 110.
The Decorah boys ran away with 179 to win their fifth straight conference title, ahead of Waverly-Shell Rock (136) and Charles City (99).

SW boys, NFV girls capture UIC titles

Area teams converged on West Union Thursday to compete in the annual Upper Iowa Conference meet, with the South Winn boys collecting 170 points. North Fayette Valley was the runner-up with 154, followed by MFL MarMac with 129. Turkey Valley garnered 74 points to finish fourth.
By one point it was the NFV claiming the girls’ title with 122 points over Central Elkader. The Trojans’ 106 points earned them sixth, followed by South Winn with 97 points.

Thursday’s match between the Decorah girls’ soccer team (5-3) and Union (2-6) was a tale of two halves as the Vikings dominated the first and the Knights took control of the second. When the clock rang out for the final time it was Decorah winning 2-0.

The Decorah girls’ golf team finished its three-meet week at a triangular at New Hampton Thursday. The Chickasaws posted 385 strokes to win the meet. Oelwein toured the course with 514, one stroke ahead of the Vikings’ 515.

After picking up a big win over Caledonia earlier in the week, the Decorah boys’ golf team circled the Waverly Municipal Golf Course with the Go-Hawks of Waverly-Shell Rock Thursday. When the last ball fell into the cup it was the hosts coming out with the win 312 to 384.

Trojans break 200-stroke barrier versus WC

Hosting West Central Thursday, the Turkey Valley boys’ golf team defeated the Blue Devils 199 to 230, holding the team score under 200 for the first time this season. West Central does not have a girls’ golf team this year, so the TV girls did not play.
