Ohrt runner-up in discus; boys’ 4×100 fourth

The South Winn girls’ and boys’ track teams both scored points on the Blue Oval during the State Track Meet, held Thursday through Saturday, May 20-22, at Drake Stadium in Des Moines.
The girls had three events place while the boys had one. Overall, Madrid won both the girls’ and boys’ team titles. The Lady Warriors took 13th place with 13 points, while the boys had five points for 33rd place.
Trojan’s sprint medley leads the way at state meet

The season came to a close for the Turkey Valley track teams as the Trojans sent 10 events to the State Track Meet in Des Moines over the weekend.
In Class 1A, Madrid swept the team titles with the girls earning 51 points and boys claiming 65.5 points. The TV girls finished the weekend with 22 points in eighth place, while the boys’ failed to secure points.
Decorah places in five events

It wasn’t the finish the Decorah track and field teams were hoping for, but the Viking tracksters scored in five events at the state track meet, held at Drake Stadium in Des Moines last weekend.
The Decorah girls finished 30th in Class 3A in team standings, securing eight points while Dubuque Wahlert won the team title with 59 points. In the boys’ race it was Pella claiming the crown with 80.5 points, while Decorah finished with five points in 33rd place.
Vikings send two doubles teams to state

Hosting the regional tennis singles and doubles competition Wednesday, the Decorah girls’ tennis team competed against seven other teams to see who would represent Region 5 at the state meet. At the end of the day, it was both Viking duos battling it out for the top spot, as both punched tickets to the June 2-3 state meet at Byrnes Park in Waterloo.
Decorah nets win on senior night

On senior night Thursday, the Decorah girls’ soccer team (8-4) was perhaps a little late getting their heads in the game, allowing Dubuque Hempstead (3-11) their only goal of the game after only 60 second, but rebounded for the 2-1 victory.

The Decorah girls’ tennis team took the court on Saturday knowing that if they could survive the Golden Eagle attack by Dubuque Wahlert that they would be regional champs and state qualifiers.

Wenthold ends season at districts

It was the end of the road and season at Pheasant Ridge Golf Course in Cedar Falls Friday for South Winn sophomore Carson Wenthold, the lone Warrior to qualify for the district meet. Wenthold had been the sectional champion; however, Friday he finished in a tie for 14th place with a 90 on his scorecard to conclude the 2021 season.
Kittelson to play softball as Knight

Decorah High School senior Ella Kittelson signed her American Rivers Conference letter of intent to play softball at Wartburg College last week.
Hackman joins NIACC softball team

Last week Turkey Valley senior Aleah Hackman signed her letter of intent to play softball at NIACC beginning in the fall of 2021. During her time as a Trojan, she has been involved in volleyball, track, large group speech, band, choir, musicals, plays, cross age teaching and YODA.

Getting the meet in before the rain began later in the week, the Decorah boys’ golf team traveled to the par-70 Waverly Municipal Golf Course Monday for the Northeast Iowa Conference meet, wrapping up the 2021 season.

Following a good showing at the Class 3A District 3 state qualifying meet Decorah athletes are ready for their final run of the season at Drake Stadium. After competing in Independence Thursday and waited until the final qualifiers were announced to see what events punched their tickets to the Blue Oval.

Eye on the prize, Vikings in regional final

Having suffered their only dual meet loss of the season at home to Union early in the season, the Decorah girls’ tennis team got their revenge and defeated the Knights 6-3 on the road Thursday. The Vikings began their road to state with 5-0 wins over Osage and Aplington-Parkersburg Saturday.
Decorah netters will see more substate action

The Decorah boys’ tennis team was put to the test last week at the district competition, hosted by Waverly-Shell Rock. The Vikings finished second in team standings out of eight squads and qualified one doubles team. Finishing and automatically qualifying for the team substate competition was Aplington-Parkersburg. Looking to be the second district representative in the substate team competition, Decorah hosted Columbus Saturday, defeating the Sailors 5-3.
