With six returning athletes, the Trojans will need everyone to step up and produce strong times meet in and meet out.

The Decorah volleyball team (1-0, 0-0 NEIC) opened the season strong Tuesday night, defeating Prairie du Chien, 3-1, on the road.
Set scores were 21-25, 25-10, 25-11 and 25-15.

With seven returning letter winners and a handful of young hopefuls ready to wear the red and white, it will be up to the Warriors to prove just how far they can go this season.

Bowling camp set

Skyline Lanes (formerly Oneota Lanes) will host an eight-week bowling camp for students in 7th through 12th grade beginning Tuesday, Sept. 14. Attendees will have professional instruction by local PBA pro Quinton Bohlen. The camp will be held each Tuesday at 4 p.m., and cost is $7 for shoe rental and two games.

The goals are big for the Decorah girls’ swim and dive team in 2021.
With a large group of returning letter winners which includes all the state qualifiers from a year ago, the Vikings are looking for their third straight conference title.
Putting the right combination of athletes in the best events for her sixth season is Head Coach Allie Bachelder. She is joined by assistant Molly Holkesvik.

Eleven letter winners to lead Trojan spikers

It will be virtually a new line-up taking the court for the Turkey Valley volleyball team this fall.
With the graduation of four seniors who all saw significant playing time last year, the Trojans will need to have some new players step into big roles.
Back at the helm is Tammy Vrzak and Jackie Novotny. Vrzak has 17 years of experience as the head coach, with Novotny bringing many with her as well as the pair co-coach. Joining them on the benches will be assistants Cally Mueller and Kelsey VanSickle.

SW harriers return ample experience

The foundation is set for the South Winn girls’ and boys’ cross country teams this fall.
With six total seniors, the Warriors have a strong core of harriers back, aiming for a conference title.
Leading the way are the co-coaches Kevin Kearney and Scott Conway. Kearney has been with the team for 28 years while Conway has been with the squad for 20.

Rollinger hangs up the headset steps away from sideline

A familiar face will be missing from the Decorah sidelines this football season.
After 37 years in the program, coach Joel Rollinger is hanging up his headphones. He’s stepping away from the gridiron but will remain with the school district as a teacher and head boys track coach.

TV capital campaign to assist FFA and athletics

The Turkey Valley Community School District is spearheading a capital campaign to raise funds for a two-fold purpose. The goal of the capital campaign is to raise $650,000. 

All-UIC baseball honorees announced

Twelve total athletes from South Winn and Turkey Valley were named to the all-conference list for the Upper Iowa Conference.
Eight from South Winn and four from Turkey Valley were among the league honorees.

UIC athletes receive softball accolades

A combined 11 athletes from Turkey Valley and South Winn softball teams were named to the Upper Iowa Conference all-league softball team, released recently.
The Trojans had seven athletes, while South Winn had four.

Fair Fun Run results

The 29th annual Decorah Parks and Recreation Fair Fun Run sponsored by Deco Products Company, Gundersen Health System, Oneota Valley Family Eye Care, Prairie Lakes Church, Stanley Engineered Fastening and the Family Table, was held on Saturday, July 17 with 90 people participating. 

11th straight conference title for Decorah; Calmar finishes fourth

It was a dominating performance for the Decorah Swim Team once again. After the pandemic cancelled last season, Decorah made waves in the pool Saturday, July 10, to win the Northeast Iowa Conference title with 646 points. The host, Calmar, finished fourth with 398 points.
