Josie (Weber) did a good job of utilizing all hitters and our back row played a stellar defensive game to give us great rallies. “For whatever reason we were not ready when the match started and our play in set one demonstrated that. Once we settled down a little we were able to compete with Waverly-Shell Rock,” said Coach Gina Holthaus. “We passed fairly well but just couldn’t find the floor at times with our swings. As we’ve been saying all year, we know there are things that we need to continue to work on and a good team like Waverly-Shell Rock is going to identify those very quickly and capitalize on them. As we stated last night after the match, if we learn from the experience we will continue to grow and get better as a team. Independence on Thursday is going to be another tough match for us, and we need to be able to bounce back and be ready.”

“West Delaware is a deep and big team. We played very hard and the score got away from us at the end. It was a competitive ball game, and we made some very good plays, but we had a few too many mistakes to win against a good team. We believe we got better playing this game and learned more about what we can do,” said Coach Pat Trewin. “We will come out very determined to improve in our blocking and steadier in our passing game. We had players learn a new position in a week and they did an admirable job. We are proud of our physical effort. We can still communicate better, and make better decisions.”

When we saw them with that intensity, they played great, when the intensity was low we tended to play flat,” said Coach Tammy Vrzak. “They are starting to gel together much better the more we get to play. Coach Loren Straube orchestrated yet another shut out to go on his long resume. Our kids are so lucky to have his leadership. No assistant coach works harder.”
