Decorah boys claim second at Mason City invite

Grateful.
After having five meets canceled due to weather conditions this season, the Decorah boys’ track and field team were grateful to be able to compete Tuesday night in Mason City, after Monday’s conditions were less than favorable.
“Mason City was able to secure enough workers to move the meet to Tuesday and we really needed a chance to compete,” noted Coach Joel Rollinger. “We were very pleased with the efforts of the team.”

Getting matches in back-to-back days, the Decorah boys’ tennis team lost to Class 2A opponent Mason City and shut out Oelwein Tuesday.

Kruckman dominates distance events as SW boys run at Osage

The South Winn boys’ track team was able to compete on the oval at Osage Tuesday night, coming home with two gold medals and a fourth-place team finish with 61 points. Clear Lake secured the team title with 153, ahead of Charles City’s 136.

Decorah soccer girls fall at home

It was a tough start to the week for the Decorah girls’ soccer team (2-6) as it took to their home pitch to face off against Denver and Waverly-Shell Rock in games back-to-back. The Lady Vikes fought hard, but went away with a loss against the Lady Cyclones (4-2), 0-3 and Class 2A No. 6 Waverly-Shell Rock (6-1), 10-0.

It was not only a combat with the Cadets, but the cold, windy elements Monday night as the Decorah girls’ golf team hosted Crestwood in a NEIC dual at Silvercrest Golf and Country Club. When the final ball was put in the cup, the Cadets won the meet 239 to 270.

The Turkey Valley golf teams endured strong winds and cold temperatures Monday and Tuesday as the hit the links with MFL MarMac. Tuesday the girls were back on the course versus Crestwood.

SW golf teams rise above Central

With weather looking uncertain for Friday, Warrior golf teams of South Winn and Central Elkader moved up their UIC dual to Thursday at Silver Springs Golf and Country Club in Ossian. Both home teams came out victorious and swept the medalist honors.
In the boys’ dual, the local Warriors carved out a win 192-246. 

Rain, rain go away; SW harriers finish strong at NFV

After rains moved through northeast Iowa Friday morning, the South Winn girls’ and boys’ track and field teams competed in West Union at the North Fayette Valley Co-Ed Invite.
In team scores, the boys finished third overall with 84 points. Clear Lake won the crown with 184.
The Warrior girls came in sixth with 50 points in a team race won by Crestwood who garnered 108 points.

Trojans place eight at the top of the field at Kee

After a long list of cancellations, the Turkey Valley track and field teams had the perfect weather to compete on Thursday at Kee High. The Trojans returned to Jackson Junction with eight gold medals.

It was a battle on the course Thursday as the Turkey Valley golf teams hosted North Fayette Valley for a co-ed tournament at Jackson Heights Golf Course. The Trojan boys dropped a 194-214 decision to the TigerHawks, while the girls were edged out 251-258.

The Bridges Golf Course in Winona presented many challenges for the young Decorah boys’ golf team Thursday as the Vikings fell short by 10 strokes to Winona Senior, 399-389, in the 18-hole dual.

With clear skies and warm temperatures, the Decorah boys’ track and field team sent a small contingent of athletes to the Harold Sweet Invitational at Dubuque Senior Thursday night. Decorah scored 34 points in the meet with all six events finishing in the top five of their respective fields.

Two golds for Decorah in Waterloo

Robust opposition had the Decorah girls’ track and field team competing to improve times Thursday as the Vikes participated in the Wahawk Invitational at Waterloo West. Cedar Rapids Prairie took home the team crown with 132 points, while Dubuque Hempstead was the runner-up with 111. Decorah was two points out of third with 100.

Vikings to compete at Drake Relays

With the weather allowing the Decorah girls’ golf team to get on the course, the Vikings showed improvement versus Winona Senior Thursday at Oneota Golf and Country Club. Although Decorah improved, Winona still dominated the links 393-529 in the 18-hole meet.

Decorah girls’ soccer fall in close contests last week

Sunshine and decent temperatures finally followed the Decorah girls’ varsity soccer team (2-4) onto the pitch in an away game against Dubuque Hempstead (5-1) Thursday. The first half saw the teams evenly matched, but some unexpectedly placed shots from the Mustangs ended the game in their favor, 3-0. The weather was a different story Friday when the Vikes were back in action with Clear Lake, that once again went to the opponent, 2-1.

Both the Decorah girls’ (2-3) and boys’ (2-2-1) varsity soccer teams took to the pitch on Monday night (April 18), each falling to their opponent in overtime. The girls faced off against Waterloo East (2-3) in an away game, losing in a shootout. The boys played North Fayette Valley (4-1) at home, losing 0-1 in overtime.
