Offensively we moved the ball well at times, but just could not come up with a score,” said Coach Pat Trewin. “We see our team as a family, we win together and lose together. We have worked very hard and will continue to do so.”

“This was a good game to come off of a week off. Some minor errors in the first quarter showed we were a little rusty from the two week layoff. But the players settled in and controlled the game after the first few minutes,” said Coach Mark Scott. “On defense, except for two plays, we dominated the Riceville offense.”

Hawks speed overwhelms Decorah gridders

Wednesday, September 14, 2022 3:10 pm

Coming off a big win over Waukon a week ago, the Decorah football team (1-2) were hoping to keep rolling in non-district action as it hosted West Delaware Friday night. However, the speed of the Hawks proved to be a challenge as the visitors scored in each quarter for the 42-6 win.
“West Delaware is a big and talented team. Their play and physicality were excellent,” said Coach Pat Trewin. “We did not play our best. They mixed some things up within both their defensive and offensive schemes and we did not adjust well. We plan to learn from this and work hard to improve.”

Thursday, September 8, 2022 4:10 pm

Four touchdowns in the first half was just enough for the Decorah football team (1-1) to escape with a 27-24 win over Waukon (0-2) on the road Friday night.
“We are proud of the way our team came out to play and how they competed for the whole game. We still have many areas to improve in and we can still play more physically,” said Coach Pat Trewin. “We had a few penalties and turnovers that could have cost us, and we need to make sure we execute our assignment correctly. However, it was great progress from game one to game two.”

Dons limit Trojans offense

Thursday, September 8, 2022 4:08 pm

The Turkey Valley football team (1-1, 0-0) simply couldn’t keep the ball moving down the field against Don Bosco (2-0, 0-0) Friday night at home, falling 48-8.
“Don Bosco dominated the game on both sides of the ball, and we struggled to get any offense going to move the ball. The defense was on the field most of the night,” said Coach Mark Scott. “I hope we learned what it takes to play at the level we need to play at to make a run in the postseason.”

Mistakes costly in Warrior loss to Maq. Valley

Thursday, September 8, 2022 4:07 pm

“We had a few mistakes on both sides of the ball to put us down 12-0 at the half. Maquoketa Valley blocked and tackled well all night and they have a special talent at the tailback position,” said Coach Jason Ohrt. “Despite the loss we had some bright spots. Kyle Kuboushek was very impressive transitioning this week to the defensive line. Parker Timp played well defensively despite dealing with a lower back injury and Keagen Streeter ran hard on offense and tackled well on defense.”
