Warriors fall to Osage in three sets

The South Winn volleyball team knew it would have to play it’s “A game” Wednesday night in the Class 2A regional quarterfinal against Osage.
Although the Warriors put up a battle, it wasn’t enough, falling to the Green Devils 3-0.
South Winn ends the season 19-11 overall.

The Turkey Valley Trojans had a lot to be proud of this fall but they ultimately watched their season end on Monday night against No. 2 St. Ansgar.
The Trojans – who reached the semifinal round of Class 1A for the first time since 2020 – bowed out in style versus those favored Saints.

The momentum continues to grow for the South Winn cross country teams as the Class 1A No. 3 girls claimed their fifth straight Upper Iowa Conference title Thursday, Oct. 17, in Elkader. The Warrior boys came up short in second to the host Central Warriors.
Unstoppable; Viking 10-7 thriller over Western Dubuque

A signature win secured the Class 4A District 2 title for the second-ranked Decorah football team (8-0, 4-0) as the Vikings’ first half was enough to earn the 10-7 victory at home Friday night.
Decorah has lost to the Bobcats the past two seasons, but this year the Vikes did everything right with just the right mix of offense to aggressive defense.

The season continues for the Decorah volleyball team which defeated Waterloo East in the first round of the Class 4A Region 1 match Tuesday night. Saturday the Vikes competed in the final Northeast Iowa Conference tournament going 2-2 for the day.
The Vikes (18-11) move on to face the NEIC champ Charles City (21-9) Thursday, Oct. 24, at 7 p.m., in Charles City. The winner advances to the regional final against the winner of the Xavier (26-4) and Waverly-Shell Rock (21-22). The regional semifinal will be played Tuesday, Oct. 29, on the home court of the highest remaining seed. The match will kick off at 7 p.m.
Trojans advance to quarterfinal round with sweep of Kee High

Addison Steinlage, a junior setter for the Turkey Valley Trojans, chuckled when she learned she was leading the entire state (all five classes) in serve efficiency Monday after the team swept one-win Kee High in the opening round of Class 1A regional play in Jackson Junction.
South Winn pounds Comets 54-14

The South Winn football team (4-4, 4-2) took care of business Friday night, defeating BCLUW (1-7, 0-6) on the road 54-15.
“We had a nice balance in the run game led by Kyle Kuboushek. We played better defensively, especially on third down this week,” said coach Jason Ohrt.
The Warriors earned of the No. 3 seed in Class A District 3 and will play at Saint Ansgar in round one of the postseason Friday, Oct. 25, at 7 p.m.
Regional swim sites announced

The Decorah swim and dive team will compete at the Linn-Mar regional.
The regional diving competition, which will also be held at Linn-Mar, is Thursday, Nov. 7. The champion from each regional site (a total of six), plus the next highest scoring 24 divers qualify for the state meet.
Riceville foils TV’s playoff bid

Turkey Valley had to win to get in.
That was no small task.
The Riceville Wildcats (7-1, 5-1) proved they sport a sound football squad after dismantling TV by a score of 54-6 in the regular season finale for coach Mark Scott’s Trojans on Friday night in Jackson Junction.
Stika, Nieman earn All-UIC honors

The Turkey Valley Trojans didn’t have enough harriers for a team score at Thursday’s Upper Iowa Conference cross country meet, but did have four athletes on the course for the competition with a sophomore pair earning All-UIC nods for finishing in the top 15.

State qualifying cross country meet info

State qualifying meet sites for cross country were announced this week.
Girls and boys run at the same site, with the Class 3A and 4A races taking place Wednesday, Oct. 23, and the Class 1A and 2A on the courses Thursday, Oct. 24. The girls race starts at 4 p.m., with the boys at 4:30 p.m.
Vikings reign at NEIC cross country finale

With the future of the Northeast Iowa Conference still hanging in the wind, the cross country teams of the state’s oldest conference converged on the course at Luther College Tuesday night for what is likely the final time.
All girls ran in one race, with the boys in another. The NEIC coaches had to declare their top seven runners for varsity competition prior to the start of the race to avoid running separate junior varsity and varsity races.
At the end of the night when all the scores were tallied, Decorah swept the competition away as the Vikings claimed all of the titles, including the middle school.

After the first quarter, no one could predict what was to come as the Decorah football team (7-0, 3-0) came together to dominate the gridiron at Marion (2-5, 1-2) Friday night, picking up its seventh win of the season and remaining undefeated in district play, 57-14.
The win sets up a big showdown in Decorah as the Vikings host Western Dubuque (5-2, 2-1) in what could be the link to claiming the Class 4A District 2 title.
Streeter rushes over 300 yards for South Winn

A defensive stop in the red zone during the final 30 seconds ensured the Warriors’ 44-36 victory over North Tama Friday night in Calmar. The win moves the South Winn football team to 3-2 in the district and guarantees a playoff bid in Class A with one game left in the regular season.

The season is winding down for the Decorah girls’ swim and dive team with just one regular season meet on the docket before the conference meet. The Vikings traveled to Linn-Mar Tuesday, Oct. 8, to compete in a double dual with the host and Iowa City West. Decorah fell to Linn-Mar 122 to 56 and Iowa City West 143 to 37.
