Season opens with win for TV

The Turkey Valley golf teams notched a pair of season-opening wins on Thursday, April 11, at Big Rock CC versus West Central. It was a cold, blustery afternoon but the Trojans were able to dispatch a much-improved Blue Devil team to start off the season on a winning note.

Busy end to week for Decorah boys

After opening the season Monday, April 8, the Decorah boys’ golf team finished the week with back-to-back competitions, including their home invite and a rescheduled triangular at Waukon.

Vikes battle Chickasaws

The Decorah girls’ golf team was in action Thursday night, taking on the wind, rain and New Hampton and came up short 170 to 209.

The wins back in the win column for the Decorah boys’ tennis team as the Vikes (3-1) defeated Aplington-Parkersburg 7-2 at home Friday.

Vikings secure 10 firsts at West Delaware

Competing in its second meet of the week, the Decorah boys’ track and field team posted strong efforts at the West Delaware Invite Thursday.
With 195 points, the Vikes finished second in the team standings, just five points behind Waverly-Shell Rock.

Warriors grab third in close race in Monona

MFL MarMac hosted a coed meet Thursday that included the South Winn boys track and field team.
Winning the team title was Crestwood with 121 points, followed by the host Bulldogs with 116 and the Warriors with 112 to round out the top three.

Following a few rain showers the Turkey Valley track and field teams joined seven other teams on the track at New Hampton for a co-ed meet.

Decorah names Tangen as new head football coach

Decorah High School is pleased to announce the hiring of Mike Tangen as head varsity football coach pending school board approval. Tangen will replace Pat Trewin who resigned after 22 years in the program and six as the head coach.

Vikes rule Decorah Relays SW fifth, TV eighth

In the first of two scheduled home meets, the Decorah girls’ track team hosted an eight-team invite Friday night, a day later than scheduled due to snow.
The Vikings controlled the meet, winning with 151 points. Crestwood was a distant second with 107 points. South Winn finished fifth with 72 while Turkey Valley posted 19 points, good for eighth.

Four events win gold for Vikes

With Monday’s home meet cancelled due to weather, the Decorah boys’ track and field team managed to get outdoors on a track Friday, competing in the Dave Sage Relays held at Waverly-Shell Rock. The Vikings finished the night with 155 points in third place in a close race for the top that was won by the Go-Hawks’ 163. In second was Waterloo West with 158.

Following a few cancellations earlier in the week. the Class 1A No. 4 Decorah boys’ tennis team kicked off its 2024 season at Independence Friday and a double dual Saturday.

Weather delays start of girls’ tennis

Spring weather challenges moved the Decorah girls’ tennis team’s first meet of the season from Monday, April 1 to Friday, April 5. Then it was straight into the first tournament of the year at Columbus Catholic Saturday.

Warriors boys hit the track

After the meet at Decorah was cancelled earlier in the week, the South Winn boys’ track and field team was able to pick up a meet at Beckman Catholic Friday to get in the Warriors’ first outdoor competition.
While no team scores were kept at the meet, South Winn managed several top three finishes.

It wasn’t even a close contest in the season opener as the Decorah girls’ golf team hosted North Fayette Valley and Waukon at Silvercrest Golf Club.
The Vikes won the meet with 212 over the Tigerhawks’ 235 and the Indians’ 247.

Vikes suffer tough loss

Thursday the Decorah girls soccer team (0-2) fell at home, 5-0, to North Fayette Valley (2-1).
The TigerHawks scored three goals in the first half and added two in the second to prevail.

The Decorah boys’ soccer team (1-2) match at Dubuque Senior (2-1) had a close contest Thursday with the Vikings taking a 1-0 lead in the first half before giving up three goals to the Rams in the second half to drop the contest 3-1.
