Ten years ago, the South Winn baseball team made their debut at the state tournament in Class 2A. Now the Warriors have earned their seventh state berth, the fifth in the last six years after defeating Kee Saturday in the district final and Don Bosco in the substate game Tuesday night.

An early deficit proved to be too much for the Decorah baseball team Friday as the Vikes hosted Independence (14-20) in the Class 3A Substate 3 quarterfinals. It was the second meeting for the two squads this season on Olejniczak field with the Mustangs taking this one as well, 7-5.

The season came to an end for the Decorah softball team Thursday night in the first round of the Class 4A regional playoffs.
The Vikings tangled with Charles City, falling 10-2. Decorah ends the year 10-18 overall and graduates just one senior — Sydney Kipp.
SW falls in Warriors versus Warriors battle

Avenging last year’s regional semifinal game and a contest earlier this season against South Winn, Wapsie Valley pushed the Red and White out of the postseason Wednesday in the Class 2A Region 7 Semifinal, 9-3.
South Winn ended the season with a 22-13 overall mark as the Upper Iowa Conference champions for the second straight year.
Three Lady Vikes named All-NEIC

Three members of the Decorah softball team were honored by the Northeast Iowa Conference recently by being named all-conference.
Elizabeth Bucksa, Lauren Luzum and Clara Hjelle all earned first team honors.

A combined 11 athletes from South Winn and Turkey Valley softball teams were named to the Upper Iowa Conference all-league softball team, released recently.
South Winn had eight athletes while Turkey Valley had three recognized.

While the season may have been filled with ups and downs this year, the Decorah baseball team (20-13) picked up two wins last week finishing third in the Northeast Iowa Conference with a 14-6 record and earned its 20th win.
Warriors keep the bats rolling, advance to district final

Firing on all cylinders, the South Winn baseball team (22-9, 16-2 UIC) continues to roll in the postseason picking up a round one win over Clarksville Saturday and topping Dunkerton Tuesday.
The Warriors will face a familiar opponent in the district final as they will host Kee High for the fourth meeting of the year in the district final Saturday, July 13, in Calmar at 7 p.m.

Trojans bow in in second round; fall to Kee 10-0

A slow night offensively was the demise for the Turkey Valley baseball team Tuesday as the Trojans fell to Kee in the district quarterfinals after defeating Riceville in round one Saturday.
The Trojans end the season 11-16 overall and will graduate five seniors — Oliver Schmitt, Caleb Kurtenbach, Russell Nieman, Aidan Holthaus and Braylen Byrne — who have been mainstays on the diamond this season and throughout their high school careers.

The Turkey Valley softball team looked to start the Class 1A postseason strong; however, a comeback launched by West Central (9-14) ended the Trojans’ plans Monday.
The Trojans end the season 7-24 overall with a 7-9 conference mark. With no seniors on the team, Turkey Valley gained valuable experience on the diamond this season.

Anytime South Winn and Turkey Valley face one another, it’s always a battle.
Last week was no exception as the Trojans hosted the Warriors, who were looking to lock in the season with an undefeated conference record Wednesday, July 3. South Winn managed to do just that as the Warriors swept the series, 12-0 and 8-1.

Baseball fans couldn’t have found a better game to watch in Calmar Thursday night as the South Winn baseball team (18-8, 15-2 UIC) hosted MFL MarMac (22-7, 14-3) in a big UIC matchup. The Warrior entered the evening with just one conference loss and MFL Mar-Mac with two, both with hopes of taking the Upper Iowa Conference top spot.
