Different opponent, very similar outcome for the Turkey Valley baseball team (8-10, 6-5 UIC) Tuesday night as the Trojans fell at Kee (10-14, 6-4 UIC) in New Albin, 2-1.
In the pitcher’s duel that limited baserunners, it was Kee who put up the first run in the fourth inning. The Hawks took advantage of a pair of base hits to score a run. A Carson Busta triple in the sixth set up a sac fly by Oliver Schmitt to give the Trojans the 1-1 tie. Looking to go into extra innings, the Trojans issued two walks and a single in the bottom of the seventh, allowing the Hawks to produce a sac fly and the 2-1 win.
TV had just the one hit in the contest by C. Busta while Noah Hanson nearly went the distance on the hill. Hanson gave up four hits and struck out three in his 6-1/3 innings of work.
“This was a well-played baseball game and Noah pitched awfully well for us,” noted Coach Dan Stepan.
Turkey Valley hosts North Fayette Valley Thursday, June 15, at 4 p.m., followed by a junior varsity contest. Monday, June 19, the Trojans will welcome MFL MarMac to Jackson Junction for a varsity doubleheader.
