Decorah’s Maria Riveros and Turkey Valley Nicholas Bernhard were recently named to All-State teams by the Iowa High School Golf Coaches Association.
Riveros, a junior, was named to the Class 3A First Team All-State Girls Golf team, while Bernard, a freshman was named to the Class 1A Second Team All-State Boys Golf Team.
Riveros finished the season with a nine-hole average of 41.29 and was the runner-up at the Northeast Iowa Conference meet this season, was third at the regional meet to punch a ticket to the state meet, the first girls golfer at state since 2012.
Bernhard helped lead the Trojans to their best season in recent years as he compiled a nine-hole scoring average of 40.6 (adj. avg. 41.99). Among the many season highlights was an individual second place tie at the boys UIC golf meet and a dramatic play-off win to claim the Class 1A sectional individual crown. Bernhard joins Trojan golf legend and school record holder Carson Bruess (2009-2012) as the only other Trojan in school history to earn boys all-state golf honors.
