Lady Vikes on a roll; girls control Comets

By Becky Walz,

It was another two tallies in the win column late last week for the Decorah girls’ basketball team (13-2, 6-0) as the Vikings picked up victories over Charles City and West Delaware.
“I see a lot of nice things happening on both the defensive and offensive ends of the floor,” said Coach Shannon Quandahl.

Conference win
Playing at home Friday, the Vikes dominated the court both offensively and defensively against Charles City (0-11, 0-5 NEIC) to win 72-11.
After taking a 30-2 lead in the first period, the Viking put up 23 points in the second and were on top 53-4 midway through the game. In the second half, Decorah outscored the Comets 19-7 and cruised to the victory.
Decorah had four players in double figures with Yazmeen Whitsitt and Bryar Duwe leading the way with 16 points apiece. Brooklyn Fromm put up 11, while Haley Gossman came through with 10. Under the basket Kylie O’Hara led the Vikings with six rebounds to go with Gossman’s five. As a team, Decorah had 25 steals with Whitsitt, Duwe and Gossman each accounting for four.
