A flurry of scoring in the third kept the Decorah girls’ basketball team (14-6, 8-1 NEIC) from getting the win Monday afternoon as the Vikes played Winterset (9-10) on the floor at the Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines. Decorah came up a little short 43-38 in the non-conference match-up.
Evenly matched on both ends of the floor, Decorah and Winterset were deadlocked 8-8 at the end of the first and 17-all at halftime. Winterset pulled ahead in the third, outscoring the Vikes 19-15 and held Decorah to six points in the final eight minutes to snare the win from the NEIC team.
Individual stats were unavailable at press time.
The Vikes wrap up the regular season on the road Friday at Waverly-Shell Rock with tip-off set for 6:45 p.m.
