Four Viking gridders tabbed as All-State

By Becky Walz,

Four Decorah football players were recently named to the Iowa Football Coaches Association all state teams.
William Hahn, a second-team honoree a year ago, moves to first team for his work on the offensive line as he aided Decorah in scoring 39 touchdowns this season and amassing 3,662 yards of total offense during the 2024 campaign.
Three others were second team honorees — Louis Bucksa, Trevor Kuennen and Gavin Groux.
Bucksa, the initial starting quarterback, called out the signals for just over seven games before a season-ending injury took him to the sidelines. Despite being forced to watch the final three and a half games from the team box, Bucksa completed 73-of-122 passes for 1,236 yards, finishing second-best in the district. He led the district in passing touchdowns with 14 and rushed himself for four scores as he carried the pigskin 31 times for 107 yards earning himself a utility nod on the second team offense.
Groux was a first team all-district honoree as a full safety on the Viking roster and earns his first all-state nod on the second team defense as a utility player. Instrumental on both sides of the pigskin, Groux had 36 total tackles, 27 of them solo stops to go with 501 yards rushing. Averaging 7.2 yards a carry, he scored six touchdowns on the ground. Groux also caught 21 passes for another 269 yards, scoring once.
Junior linebacker Kuennen was second on the Vikings’ roster in total tackles with 59 with 36 of them solo stops to earn a second team defense nod on the all-state list. He also had four tackles for a loss to go with four interceptions.
