By Becky Walz,
It was a very even game between the Decorah girls soccer team and Dubuque Senior Saturday, April 8. Playing on the road, the Vikes were unable to find the goal and were defeated 2-0.
Despite had a couple Viking breakaways to goal, Decorah wasn’t able to put one in, leaving the score 0-0 after the first half. The second half was again pretty even except the Vikes made a couple errors in the back and Senior made Decorah pay, capitalizing for two goals.
Mya Redenius finished the day with 12 saves as she stood in the goal for the Vikings. Taking all three of Decorah’s shots on goal was senior Grace Neal.
“I thought we had a very good chance to come out victorious. Give Senior credit for finishing those two chances, but we could have done better clearing the ball away,” said Coach Loren Hendrickson. “We need to work hard to maintain possession. We haven’t done well in that area yet and I think that is the key to us really playing well.”
Decorah will host Gladbrook-Reinbeck Thursday, April 13 at 5:30 p.m. Next week will kick off with a rescheduled match at Clayton Ridge Monday, April 17, at 6:30 p.m.
