It has been a busy week for the Decorah girls’ swim and dive team as the Vikes competed in an invite over the weekend and hosted Cedar Rapids Kennedy Tuesday.
Taking fifth
Saturday, the Vikings totaled 318 points and claimed one title in the annual WaHawk Invite hosted by Waterloo West. The hosts won the day with 447.5 points over Spencer who tallied 433.
Decorah’s 200 free relay bested the large field with a time of 1:47.77. Members of the winning relay were Bella Sailor, Jenna Schissel, Grace Baker and Liz Bucksa. The same quartet also claimed bronze in the 200 medley relay in 2:01.74.
Bucksa had quite the day as she won silver in the 50 free in 26.22 seconds and third in the 100 breast in 1:14.14.
In 2:29.00, Schissel took the bronze in the 200 individual medley and the posted a third-place time of 6:01.19 in the 500 free race.
Others finishing in the top five were Sailor in the 200 IM (5th, 2:33.28) and 100 back (5th, 1:11.30) and Baker in the 50 free (5th, 26.97) and 100 free (5th, 1:02.44).

Senior night
Three days after competing in Waterloo, the Vikings hosted Cedar Rapids Kennedy in a dual as they celebrated senior night at the Luther College natatorium. While several events won gold and silver Tuesday, Decorah fell to the Cougars 111 to 72.
In the 1-meter diving competition, Ava Carolan scored 127.55 points to take the top spot, while Isis Timm was third with 70.35 points.
Bucksa took the top spot in the 100 free in 55.82 seconds, to go with an individual silver in the 50 free in 26.23 seconds. The sophomore joined forces with Sailor, Schissel and Baker in the 200 medley race to finish runner-up. The quartet had a time of 2:01.04. That same foursome finished the 400 free relay in 4:04.24, taking second.
Schissel had the best time of the field in the 100 breast, stopping the clock at 1:17.06 for gold, while teammate Avalea Burns took silver in 1:19.37. Schissel was second to touch the wall in the 200 individual medley, posting a time of 2:28.18. Sailor also had an individual runner-up finish in the 100 back with a time of 1:10.39.
Taking home more hardware for the Vikes in third were Baker in the 50 free (27.22 seconds) and Kutz in the 500 free (6:23.12).
