Conference wrestling and swimming this week

The start of the postseason for high school wrestling and swimming begins this week with the conference meets.

Girls wrestling
New this season are the two classifications for girls wrestling. Decorah and South Winn are both in Class 1A and will compete at different regional locations at 4 p.m. Friday, Jan. 31. For each of the eight regional tournaments, the champion and runner-up wrestler in each weight class will advance to the state tournament.
The Vikings are at Osage along with Charles City, Crestwood, Eagle Grove, Emmetsburg, Hampton-Dumont-CAL, Humboldt, Lake Mills, MFL MarMac, Nashua-Plainfield, North Butler-Clarksville, New Hampton/Turkey Valley, Northwood-Kensett, Riceville, Sumner-Fredericksburg, Tripoli and West Fork.
The Warriors will be on the mats at East Buchanan with Alburnett, Algona, Bellevue, Center Point-Urbana, Central Elkader, Columbus Catholic, Denver, Don Bosco, Janesville, Midland, North Fayette Valley, Oelwein, Postville, Saint Ansgar, Starmont, Wahlert Catholic and Waukon.
The state tournament will be held Thursday and Friday, Feb. 6-7, at Xtream Arena in Coralville.

Boys wrestling
South Winn matmen will compete against Riceville for the Upper Iowa Conference individual meet at 4 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 30.
The Decorah wrestlers are at Charles City for the NEIC meet Saturday, Feb. 1, beginning at 10 a.m.
The district meets begin at 12 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15 with the top two place winners at each weight advancing to state.
Decorah will compete at Clear Lake, against the host, Crestwood, Forest City, Garner-Hayfield-Ventura, Hampton-Dumont-CAL, Iowa Falls-Alden and North Butler.
Class 1A South Winn will see mat action at Denver, competing against the Cyclones, Central Elkader, Columbus Catholic, East Buchanan, Hudson, Newman Catholic, North Linn, Starmont and Wapsie Valley.
The regional dual meets are scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 4 with the State Dual Team Wrestling Tournament set for Saturday, Feb. 8, at Xtream Arena in Coralville.
The traditional (individual) state wrestling meet runs Thursday through Saturday, Feb. 19-22, at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.

Swimming
The Vikings will compete in the North Central Swim Conference invite starting at 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, in Boone, with hopes of winning their seventh straight conference title.
The 2025 district meet is set at 12 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, with Decorah competing in Mason City. The Vikings will be challenging for an opportunity to compete at state along with the hosts, Bishop Garrigan, Cedar Falls, Dowling Catholic, Fort Dodge, Southeast Polk and Spencer.
The fastest 32 individual swimmers and 24 relay teams from district competition will qualify for state competition. The state meet is currently scheduled for Feb. 14-15 at the University of Iowa’s Campus Recreation & Wellness Center in Iowa City.
