It was a cold night shooting for the South Winn girls’ basketball team (4-9, 3-6 UIC) as the Warriors fell to Central Elkader (7-5, 6-3 UIC) Thursday 38-20, in a game that had originally been scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 9.
Central’s offense that put on a show to start the game, outscoring SW 12-4 in the first. South Winn picked up the pace in the second to score seven in the second, while Central doubled its score to lead 24-11 at halftime. SW scored just three points in the third.
“It was a tough night offensively. We really struggled to execute offensively and got a little stagnant at times. Our effort on the defensive side of things was there again and that continues to be our strength,” said Coach Justin Izer.
Six Warriors put tallies in the scoring column with Aubrey Willey leading the way with six points, five rebounds and three steals. Karissa Wenthold added five points, while Allison Hageman had four points and four boards.
