It wasn’t pretty to start the game, but it was a spectacular 7-3 win for the Decorah baseball team (6-4, 4-2 UIC) over non-conference opponent MFL MarMac (11-2, 6-0 UIC) Tuesday night at home.
The Vikings had a slow first four frames offensively, giving up two runs in the second and one in the third to the Bulldogs; however, a five-run fifth inning lifted Decorah to the lead. Highlighting the stanza was a Brady Bohner grand slam that sent the Vikings to the lead that was never again relinquished. Decorah added two more runs in the sixth, not giving the Bulldogs another chance to score.
Fisher Tweten and Brayden Wemark combined for the seven innings on the hill. Other individual stats were unavailable at press time.
Decorah was at Waverly-Shell Rock Wednesday in a varsity doubleheader. The Vikes will be at the North Scott tournament Saturday beginning at 12:30 p.m., then travel to Charles City Monday, June 10, for another varsity conference twinbill at 5 p.m.
