Another clean sweep for Vikes

By Becky Walz,

The offense was hot for the Decorah baseball team (6-1, 4-0 NEIC) as the Vikings swept Waukon (1-5, 1-3 NEIC) at home Tuesday night, 8-2 and 7-3.
It was another great outing on the mound for Brady Bohner who kept the Indian scoring threats at bay. The senior threw a complete game with seven strikeouts, giving up two runs on seven hits. In contrast, Decorah put two runs on the board in the first, two in the third, three in the fourth and added one in the sixth.

Decorah tallied eight hits in the contest with Mason Avila going 2-for-4 with a double, an RBI and two stolen bases. Kaden Alstad also had a double for the Vikes.
“Offensively we were able to get ahead early and continued to add on as the game went on,” said Coach Alec Zwanziger.
Cash Riehle made his debut on the mound in the nightcap and pitched great for Decorah, going 6-1/3 innings with five Ks. Once again, the Viking offense pounced early scoring in the first four frames and keeping Waukon to one. The Indians plated two in the seventh but was left looking for more.
Alstad came up big at the plate for the Vikes with three hits, including a pair of doubles and drove in three runs.
“Credit to Waukon for continuing to fight up to the very last inning. Thanks to some great defense highlighted by Brayden Wemark’s performance at shortstop helped the Vikings complete the sweep of the Indians,” noted Coach Zwanziger.
