Why would anyone vote against obtaining information?

By Kirk Larsen, Decorah

Editor,

As a rural Decorah resident who is served by Alliant Energy and will be affected by the potential formation of a Decorah MEU, I will be impacted by whatever your vote on March 4 decides. As I understand it, this vote is not to establish the MEU, or to take on debt, or to commit Decorah to anything except to be able to obtain the information it needs as a community to make a good decision on possibly establishing a MEU.

Lots of letters have spilled much ink on both sides of the issue, but the only way to get clear and unbiased information is by voting yes. Once Decorah has the information, if it will be too expensive for customers, or will be unreliable, then I trust the city will vote it down.  But if the information shows Decorah residents can generate their own renewable energy, that the MEU will be just as reliable, that costs to customers will be cheaper and keep money local, then I expect the city will vote for the MEU. Decorah doesn’t have reliable information, and after the last MEU vote, it was shown that accurate information was withheld. Decorah will never get reliable information on our electric grid unless you vote yes on March 4.

Why would anyone vote against the Decorah community obtaining the information it needs to be able to make an informed decision?
