Vote for Tim Lecander

By Mary Lewis, Decorah

I was so pleased when I found out Tim Lecander was running for Iowa House in district 63. Rarely have I met a person so well informed and responsive in conversation. It is always a delight to talk with him because he is truly interested in what I’m saying and a very patient listener. He is particularly interested hearing what citizens think of as the major issues.
Among those he has thought deeply about is how we can care for our environment. Tim has a deep love for the land that we in Iowa are so lucky to have, and knows we need to mitigate the effects of climate change that impact all of us, our children and their children.
Increasingly severe storms are eroding our land and degrading our water, but there are specific things we can do to protect both. Tim will support the use of buffer strips along streams to restrict runoff from fields, and welcomes all interested parties to the table for discussion. His particular skills as a software engineer, where in making changes to the way a business is run, he always considers how the whole business is affected, make him especially good at looking at complex issues like this one.
Another one concerns voting regulations. For example, how does last year’s measure to shorten the span of time for early voting in Iowa from 40 days to 20 affect the whole, that is the extent to which Iowans are truly represented in their government. Those with mobility or transportation difficulties could be disenfranchised.
We are lucky to have Tim Lecander as a candidate, because of his passion, his energy, and his desire to listen. Do give him your vote for state legislature. You’ll be glad you did.
