Thoughts from a Veteran

By Lowell Corlett, Castalia

Recently my daughter took me in my wheelchair to the Veterans Memorial in Decorah. What a venue, the people who organized this should be given a medal.

As a Vietnam Veteran myself, I think of my tour, which was unpleasant, but I can’t but think of the 58,000 who didn’t make it home. How about the forgotten war, Korea, with 50-some thousand, WWII, 200-some thousand, and the Middle East Conflicts – Iraq and Afghanistan?

This makes me wonder, if two of our elected officials knelt during the playing of our National Anthem. I hope not, but if they need help getting up, I wish them luck.
