Recognizing the beautiful City Butterfly Garden and its volunteers

By Miriam Patton, Decorah

Dear Editor,

As the season changes, work at the City Butterfly Garden is wrapping up. A cohort of volunteers spent many hours weeding, mulching, transplanting, watering and collecting seed from May through mid-October. Several public programs were offered, including an open house, monarch tagging and prairie seed collection.

Those who made a contribution of time, passion and hard work were: Patience Dunke, Robert Fisher, Mary Glock, George and Joan Hagen, Bruce Jordan, Diane Kruse, Chip Miller, Jerri Osenga, Drew Pellett, Corby Preus and recently added Elizabeth, Libby and Ruben Finanger. I have really enjoyed working with these great people, along with Corey Meyer of Decorah Parks and Recreation and Green Americorps workers Matt Novotny and Lucas Friedrich.

We hope the citizens of Decorah and Winneshiek County, as well as visitors to our area, enjoy this beautiful site in the middle of town and can appreciate the color, tranquility and inspiration it offers.
