‘May we fight hard to ensure this is not so’

By Ketel Paulsen, Decorah

Dear Editor,

I read Wednesday, March 13 of a barrage of announcements from EPA Chief Lee Zeldin about turning back the clock on our environment, saying it would repeal dozens of the nations most significant environmental regulations, including limits on tailpipe and smokestack emissions, protections for wetlands and the legal basis that allows it to regulate the greenhouse gases that are heating the planet so quickly.

Zeldin boasted that the EPA’s mission is to “lower the cost of buying a car, heating a home and running a business.” But at the cost to all of us for a livable future.

And how can these decisions be made without Congress? Zeldin says power plants will be free to increase power plant emissions, roll back past laws moving us toward a green future, placing us all in great peril. May we fight hard to ensure this is not so.
