Many questions remain

By Laurie Worcester, Decorah

Dear Editor:
There are many unanswered questions regarding recent City Council decisions. In light of the Scooter business coming to Decorah:
1. Did the council ask for any input from law enforcement in towns or cities that currently have operating Scooter businesses?
2. Where will the business be located?
3. Did the council seek input from Luther and Decorah High School to help determine if the business could generate concerns for them?
4. Were any traffic studies considered? Mechanic and Water Streets are frequently busy. It is possible that Montgomery Street and College Drive will become even more congested if Sunflower and Kwik Star projects are completed? When Pulpit Rock Brewery holds a special event, Fifth Avenue and the adjoining streets are filled with cars.
5. How will the business handle the parking? Do they have enough room to accommodate 10 to 20 parked scooters?
Although it would be fun to ride a scooter, tourism will not sustain Decorah’s economy.
We have outstanding law enforcement in Decorah. This is my opinion based on an article I read: When did the council stop accepting the input or recommendations from Decorah law enforcement?
