Let Congress feel it

By John Carver, Decorah

It appears Congress has been left out of Elon Musk’s damage control program. His wrecking ball is something that should be shared by everyone.

Congress receives federal dollars the same as other federal employees who have been terminated across the nation. It does not appear Congress has unduly suffered. Salaries are high, pensions are high, medical care is high and members no doubt accumulate wealth in different ways. A cut in benefits would seem to be in order. There is nothing like feeling the pain of others in order to stir the troops. And speaking of pain: there is Trump debt from his first presidency that should be resolved. The Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget wrote this summary report:

“Of the $8.4 trillion President Trump added to the debt, $3.6 trillion came from COVID relief laws and executive orders, $2.5 trillion from tax cut laws and $2.3 trillion from spending increases, with the remaining executive orders having costs and savings that largely offset each other.”

There seems to be no limit or concern for his actions.
