It had to be Jesus

The prophet Micah foretold, some 700 years before the event, that One would go forth from (be born in) Bethlehem in the region of Judah. The place of this Person’s birth was named, but there were also other distinctives of this one.
Speaking God’s words, Micah said, “One will go forth from Me.”  Further identifying Him, God said, “His goings forth are from the days of eternity.”
This is just one of hundreds of prophetic verses all pointing ahead to one Individual who would, by those prophecies, be convincingly narrowed down to just one Person, with one specific purpose.
His place of birth, the nature of His conception, the travels of His childhood years, His forerunner who would announce His arrival (John the Baptist), His demeanor, His appearance, His lineage, His healing ministry, His effect on the common person, His betrayal, including the exact amount of money offered for the betrayal, many details of the manner of His death, and the glorious prediction of His resurrection from the grave, all were foretold, either directly or by some imagery hundreds of years before the birth of this Person.
What’s important to realize is that they all had to be fulfilled in this one Person; any candidate could be ruled out as an imposter.  Scholars have found as many as 574 verses in the Old Testament that somehow point to or describe or reference the coming Messiah.
Peter Stoner, professor emeritus of Science at Westmont College in Santa Barbara, California, has applied the science of probability to the likelihood of any random person just happening to fulfill just 8 of these prophecies. He said that the likelihood would be 1 in 10 to the 17th.  (Science Speaks, Moody Press, 1958)
To envision this, he asked the reader to imagine filling the State of Texas knee deep in silver dollars. Include in this huge number one silver dollar with a black check mark on it. Then, turn a blindfolded person loose in this sea of silver dollars. The odds that the first coin he would pick up would be the one with the black check mark are the same as 8 prophecies being fulfilled accidentally in the life of the promised Messiah.
Micah declares that this little baby was from the days of eternity. That alone would rule out anyone who was of the earth. Indeed, “Emmanuel”, one of the names he was predicted to have, when translated means, “God with us!” (Isaiah 7:14)
But why? Why would God come to be with us? The answer to that question dates back to the beginning of time. God had told Adam that in the day he would eat of a forbidden fruit he would experience a loneliness and estrangement with God that he had no solution for.
In fact, there is no man who has ever lived who could provide a solution to this estrangement from God.  Only God Himself, born into the human race in the town of Bethlehem, the God-man Jesus, would be qualified to do it.
A redemption price was named – death. The wages of sin is death, but a sinful person cannot exonerate himself by dying; death is simply what he deserves. Only the death of a sinless Person, given as a ransom on behalf of those who want to be forgiven, could pay the price that sin requires in such a way as to set free those who wish to be set free from endless death.
This Baby was born to die a death as a ransom. That’s what the prophets foretold. It had to be Jesus!
If you will confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord (that He has the authority to forgive your sin by the atoning sacrifice of Himself) and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead (having solved your sin problem), you will be saved from the wages of your sin!
