Decorah small businesses in favor of MEU

By

Local dollars are the heartbeat of Decorah, and small businesses understand that like no other. In a time when so many costs of running a business have continued to rise, we as business owners have to focus more on every expense and innovate in order to stay viable.

A vote yes this March is a unique opportunity for Decorah to have a voice in our energy future, and a chance to explore keeping energy dollars local. By supporting this referendum, you are choosing to invest in our community.

Electric costs are a significant financial consideration in operating our businesses, with the most recent rate increases from Alliant meaning many of us will be experiencing 15 percent higher electric costs in the coming year. Reliability of electrical service is also vital to our business. We understand that any future electric utility provider, be that Alliant or an MEU, would need to offer the same — or higher — level of reliability as we currently experience.

Our vibrant local business community is part of what makes our small town a unique and desirable place to live and visit. We are committed to offering quality goods and services to our community for many years to come. We know that when we keep our money local, we make an investment in our own future. We consider this vote as a chance for the city of Decorah to explore innovation and investment for all local electricity users.

Thank you to the city of Decorah for calling this referendum and giving an opportunity for voters to participate. We will be voting yes on March 4 – please join us.
