Butterfly Garden in bloom

By Jerri Osenga

As of July 1, Decorah’s Butterfly Garden will have over 17 prairie plant species blooming in all colors imaginable. They include yellows: black-eyed susans, prairie coreopsis, oxeye sunflower; whites: fleabane daisy, wild white indigo, virginia mountain mint, culver’s root, a few yet of foxglove beardtongue, wild quinine; orange: butterfly weed; green: rattlesnake master; lavender: bergamot, common milkweed; purple: purple prairie clover, prairie blazingstar, pale purple coneflower, leadplant; blue: blue vervain; pink: prairie rose.
As you come, take a brochure map at the large sign. It gives the location of the plant with proper latin names and numbers.
This is the hurrah time of summer. Come again in the fall for the yellow explosion.
